Gene therapy field is entering the new era with the great potential to reshape the treatment of several human diseases. Roche is dedicated to the establishment of an advanced gene therapy-manufacturing platform to support the development of viral vector products. The process development team of Roche is seeking a motivated student to directly contribute to technology development and platform optimization for our future viral vector-manufacturing platform. Therefore, we offer the position to work on the evaluation of appropriate small-scale equipment for process development as well as the selection of best scaling up criteria to manufacturing scale.
Your tasks
Execute a market research and systems overview of commercially available lab scale bioreactors.
Leveraging past studies and extracting critical information from the scientific community to develop a proposal of best suited bioreactors based on literature data
Engineering characterization of selected lab scale bioreactor systems and comparison to full scale systems to propose best scale down systems based on engineering data Execute cell culture experiments and in small scale bioreactors to compare small scale performance to manufacturing scale bioreactors
Develop a scale up / scale down strategy for suspension cell culture from 1 to 500 L scale – adapt process parameter accordingly to achieve comparable process performance in small scale
You will work both individually and as part of a team to achieve project goals within defined timelines.
Who you are
You are currently enrolled in a master’s course in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, process engineering or a comparable course or are in the GAP year between bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Experience in handling mammalian cell culture process is preferred.
Knowledge of HEK293T cells, virology, viral validation, the cell-based assay would be an asset.
Independence and commitment distinguish you, and you enjoy technical challenges and working in an intercultural team
You are proficient in English and not afraid of talking to international colleagues in person, via phone or Email.
