About the Unit
The function Yara Farming Solutions will lead the transformation towards more sustainable and efficient food production, by innovating our offering and the way we work. R&D and Agronomy is responsible for developing new crop nutrition products and driving agronomic excellence within the organization. The R&D area has the mandate to drive and execute research projects to develop innovative products for crop growth improvement. The group’s focus is on identifying and verifying molecular targets in different crops for e. g. increasing resistance against abiotic stresses.
For our team in Dülmen / Germany, we are looking for a passionate Research Scientist – Computational Biology / Bioinformatics for a limited period of 2 years.
Responsibilities
As a Research Scientist – Computational Biology / Bioinformatics, you will substantially contribute to the development of a molecular target identification and validation platform. You will be working with molecular, genetic, physiologic, agronomic, and computational experts to develop solutions for transient crop trait modifications. Among your responsibilities will be:
- Identify crop candidate genes / proteins / metabolites that influence phenotypes and agronomic performance under different environmental conditions using bioinformatic approaches like e. g. comparative genomics / proteomics / metabolomics
- Perform computational analyses of (multivariate) large-scale gene expression data
- Link the output of molecular profiling methods to gene function and phenotype predictions
- Model gene regulatory / protein interaction networks to identify new connections and central regulators
- Work with scientists from other disciplines to discuss and define analytic approaches, hypotheses and interpretations

Profile
- PhD degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, plant genetics, molecular biology, or similar
- Minimum 5 years of working experience in a research and development environment
- Strong expertise in large-scale plant molecular data analysis like e. g. RNA-seq, comparative genomics / proteomics
- Experienced in programming languages like e. g. Python, Perl, R, and advanced statistics
- Published track record in bioinformatic analyses of plant molecular / genetic data
- Entrepreneurial mindset with experience in setting up a bioinformatic data processing and analyses pipeline
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey complex topics / results to stakeholders with non-technical backgrounds
- Fluent English communication skills. German is a plus
