Tasks

The Spacecraft Operations Engineering will mainly support the EARTHCARE mission, with the possibility to support other missions across Earth Observation. The primary area of responsibility is the Data Handling system, including the preparation and validation of the FOP, inputs for LEOP and commissioning timeline, preparation of the remaining SVT, and contribution to the OBSM set-up and testing.

The primary areas will be, but not limited to, Spacecraft System and Subsystems and activities applicable to spacecraft operations. 

The general activities to be supported are (depending on the phase of the mission):

•   Study of Project specific Characteristics and Ground Segment Documentation 

•   Participation in the Analysis and Design of Satellite Operations 

•   Preparation of Flight Control and Contingency Procedures 

•   Mission Management and Mission Planning Support Service

•   Production of Project specific Software Validation and Satellite Interface Validation Test (SVT)

•   Procedures, Reports and Participation in SVTs 

•   Participation in the System Operations Validation Test (SOV), Training and Simulation Programmes 

•   Participation in Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) and Mission Critical Operations 

•   Preparation of and Participation in the Commissioning Phase.

•   General Flight Control Support Service

•   Spacecraft Performance Analysis 

 



Requirements

Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:

  • Minimum Bachelor degree and 2 years experience in a similar role within spacecraft operations, preferable in data handling. 
  • Fluent in English. 
  • Spacecraft subsystem knowledge, with emphasis on data handling. 
  • Experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations.
  • Hands on familiarity with operational tools: MCS, Simulator, DB browser, MOIS or equivalent tool.
  • Hands-on familiarity in SVT and flight procedures development.
  • Experience in Mission Data Systems & Mission Control Systems and Simulators.
  • Coordination skills with internal (Flight Control Team), and external (ESRIN payload data centre, Satellite developer, simulator developer) parties. 
  • Familiarity with the ESOC environment (desirable, but not essential). 
  • Familiarity with satellite control systems (e.g. SCOS-2000)
  • Some experience dealing with external interfaces
  • The ability to multi-task efficiently; working on multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously.
