Job-Beschreibung und Hinweise für Technical Service Manager - Bakery

As a Technical Service Manager for our Bakery category, you’ll work closely with customers, responsible for end-to-end product development in a wide range of Bakery Applications and Formulations.

You’ll be based at our European Innovation Hub in Lübeck (near Hamburg, Germany) with access to state-of-the-art equipment and industry expertise, but working with clients across the growth market of the EMEA region with international travel as required.

You will be focusing on key food trends such as: Sugar and Calories Reduction, Salt Reduction, Fat Reduction, Fibre Fortifications, and Recipes. If health and food innovation stimulate you, this is the perfect opportunity to lead some of the most exciting projects in the industry.

This is a hands-on role, responsible for carrying out bakery product development concepts and trials in labs, pilot plants, and customer production lines.  The primary focus is serving the EMEA regional market, but as a member of our global Application and Technical Service network, you’ll get to connect with and learn from international colleagues across other T&L regions. With experience in Bakery formulations and an appetite to innovate, you will support our Regional Growth Strategy by applying your knowledge of bakery processes, and utilise the very best of our ingredients and food solutions to develop on-trend prototypes to meet our customer needs.

About the role

  • As Bakery Technical Service (TS) Manager you will be hands on for the full product development lifecycle – from understanding the clients’ needs, developing formulations using innovative ingredients and food solutions, carrying out trials, presenting findings, moving from pilot plant production environments through to launch.
  • You will get to show your technical knowledge and expertise across a broad range of bakery products – for example: Biscuits, croissants, rolls, pizzas crust, cookies, breads, crackers, desserts, bakery fillings, bakery snacks, nutritional and cereal bars, cold and hot baked processed products to mention a few.
  • Managing a portfolio of projects, you will be responsible for prioritisation of activities in order to deliver the desired outcomes on time, maximizing the commercial opportunities for our Ingredients and Food Solutions business.
  • Working in a growth market, we need to be agile and work at speed, never compromising quality of work, and adapting to diverse customer needs, ways of working and within the varied regulatory constraints of each country we support.
  • You’ll be working independently, but also collaborating with your commercial and scientific colleagues but always closely connected with the clients you support – occasionally embedded in their own teams and/or locations as the project need requires.
  • As a senior member of the ATS team, you’ll be helping drive cross-functional working in the European Innovation centre, promoting active communication to ensure the smooth running of Bakery project, leveraging the benefits of a multicultural team of experts to better serve our customers. .

About you

To be successful in the role you’ll need to have:

  • A Bachelors and/or Masters level qualification in Food Science/technology/Engineering or equivalent, to support the technical demands of the role
  • Product development experience in a broad range of baked products – for example: Biscuits, croissants, rolls, pizzas crust, cookies, breads, crackers, desserts, bakery fillings, bakery snacks, nutritional and cereal bars, cold baked processed products, hot baked processed products, etc.
  • Proven experience in a similar role in order to make a quick impact – ideally gained in an ingredients company or from FMCG/consumer goods businesses and with an interest in learning about ingredients and food solutions in Bakery.  
  • Prior experience in food product development within EMEA is preferred to have gained firsthand experience of the diversity in local food legislation and cultural tastes across the region.
  • Exposure to working in/around complex international organizations, and able to demonstrate working cross-functionally in previous roles.
  • A customer centric approach, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English Language skills (verbal and written) and any further language from the EMEA region would be particularly interesting (i.e. French,  Italy)
  • A willingness to travel across EMEA region

Less than an hour from Hamburg, our Lübeck site, is soon to become our new innovation hub with expanded lab and pilot plant facilities, enhanced analytical and sensory centre, onsite training centre and new meeting spaces.
